Want to pitch your new deal on BNN?
Here’s a great opportunity for early stage companies to raise awareness within the Angel and financial community. The Business News Network launched a new weekly show on November 3rd called “The Pitch”, hosted by the much-loved Andrew Bell.
I’m going on today at 11:30am, with VentureLink’s John Varghese and another compatriot, and the two live pitches will be done by Dennis Meharchand, CEO of Valt.X Holdings and Shai Berger, CEO of Fonolo.
Valt.X believes their anti-virus software will secure your computer with “absolute certainty.” (www.valtx.com). Fonolo plans to show us how www.fonolo.com “allows you to skip annoying corporate phone menus and speak to the person you need straight away.”
Each firm is looking for between $750k and $1 million.
If you’d like to get BNN’s attention for an upcoming show, let me know. This will be a weekly live event, and good “capital-ready” stories are always in demand. And, unlike that other show, the “money folks” BNN has recruited come from the real VC and early stage ecosystem.
In case you were wondering, our goal is not to make you cry on television to improve ratings. BNN has done a great job of finding stories for the show that have a real chance to make a go of it. Tune in.

Hey Mark…Look forward to watching the segments. I will admit to watching the "Den", primarily for entertainment purposes but I was wondering your thoughts on Brett Wilson, who of all the "Dragons" is the only guy "in the game" and seems to be a really thoughtful and saavy investor.
Thanks for stopping by Fred.
By all accounts, Brett Wilson is the real deal, although we’ve not met. It seems that he understands that the point of these shows is to be a forum to help guide entrepreneurs (budding or truly legit) on how to succeed, not come down on them like a tonne of bricks.

Hello Mark,
I am pleased to hear that you will be appearing on BNN’s The Pitch. I had the opportunity to watch the November 3rd episode. I found the companies to be well screened and the panel’s investment thesis’ to be very realistic. I am looking forward to watching your episode. On a side note, I feel that The Pitch (in addition to The Social Network, Dragon’s Den and Shark’s Tank) is just further proof that entrepreneurship and venture capital have become cool and increasingly understood by the mainstream.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with Fred on his opinion that Dragon’s Den is mainly entertainment driven. However, I had the fortune to sit in on a speaking session with Kevin O’Leary at Ryerson University yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality O’Leary’s commentary. I remember O’Leary’s weekly BNN appearances on Market Call over the years and his ability to zero in on an investment thesis, in my opinion, he still has it, and the sound bites from Dragon’s Den do not portray this ability.
