Globe read thyself
Is it just me, or did Richard Blackwell not read his colleague’s column last month before putting the boots to the wind power industry? With our exposure to Ventus, we obviously track such stuff as part of our ongoing due diligence process.
This was, I suppose, a news story. But I didn’t see much in the way of news. And the facts/figures he drew from were largely old saws that Eric Reguly also drew on in his less-than-authoritative Report on Business column on the same topic.
Post holiday season section filling had to be done, and the markets were closed yesterday, after all. Why not reprint largely discredited reports about the coming death of the wind farm industry?
Retooled pieces don’t win NNAs. Honourable mention, perhaps, for the “green” angle by at least recycling a colleagues work.
Sidebar: Just last Friday, Ventus closed a $25MM Scotia Capital-led IPO of their West Cape PEI wind farm. As the old woman says to the fellow carrying her out to the meat wagon in Monty Python And The Holy Grail: “I’m Not Dead Yet!”
Was a Friday closing of a windfarm IPO just a little too, well, factish to warrant inclusion in the story about the pending death of the wind industry?
