Get that man a dictionary
My colleague Craig pointed out a wonderful quote from RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie in a recent Associated Press story about the new 8800:
“The response to the trackball has been universally positive.”
Jimmy! Did neither you nor Mike get my respectful email of last week requesting that you bring back the thumb trackwheel for the enterprise editions? You need to hire someone to follow what is being said about your great company in the blogosphere. As any successful politician will tell you, anecdotal feedback always trumps polling data in the end.
Don’t ditch the trackwheel. Need we start a petition?

The spin in that quote is brilliant. The positioning / messaging, whether true or not, is right on – “you should love the new trackball, everyone else does”. The quote was repeated by over 300 media websites or blogs further reinforcing the message.
As for the trackball, it seems to be here to stay (needed to get rid of the wheel to make the new blackberry slimmer although that could be yet another “spin” on the internet). Users will love it or hate it but in the end, get used to it.
