Vince can't avoid the NYT
Even though our Raptors basketball team was foiled in the first round of the playoffs. And they were largely brutal in four of their six games against the New Jersey Nets. And despite losing to the only team in the entire NBA that the fans didn’t want to lose to….
It may warm some of your hearts to read that Vince Carter has run into a fate worse than a clogged lane: a determined New York Times reporter:
Carter Comes Close to Blaming Himself
Vince Carter had his entire arsenal going Thursday: the dismissive smirk, the practiced nonchalance, the mildly defensive monotone.
On the second day of a three-day break between playoff games, Carter showed more diversity in his rhetorical repertoire than he had against the Cleveland Cavaliers. And he came as close as he ever has to blaming himself for his team’s woes.
Carter said he was playing like garbage, a rare admission for a star guard who generally chafes at criticism. “I think I can play better,” Carter said. “That’s my goal. It’s up to me, in my mind, to give the team a little more at both ends.”
And in a contract year, as well!
