BCE Place / Brookfield Place / The OxBox?
We moved into the TD Canada Trust Tower at BCE Place in 2005. By 2007, BCE’s naming rights had expired and the company didn’t re-up…not unexpected given the LBO that was underway at the time.
So owner and manager Brookfield Properties proudly slapped their name on the two tower structure, rebranding it “Brookfield Place”. We tenants rush around and change our stationary. Courtyards were named after some former Bay Street shooters and signs and garbage can covers were changed.
Then, this summer, Oxford Properties (a division of OMERS), decides that it wants to either own or get out of the 50/50 ownership share they have with Brookfield on the TD Canada Trust Tower (the south tower of the complex, for those who have a hard time keeping it straight).
We just received our letter last week. As of August 1st, Oxford is our sole landlord. Brookfield still owns all of the Bay-Wellington Tower, and half of the retail beneath the two. Which means that they each have their own Starbucks.
So, anticipating a new round of naming, here are some ideas for our landlord to consider:
Oxford Place
Oxford Centre
Oxford Tower
The Oxford Building
Macdonald Cartier Centre
Oxford Crossing
The OxBox
Latimer Place
(As an aside, it sure confuses people from out-of-town that we are in the TD Canada Trust Tower, kitty-corner to the TD Bank Tower at the Toronto-Dominion Centre.)
MRM
Wellington Place?
Wellington Financial Tower?
The building formerly known as…
Oh, Mark, a “can’t pass up”,
…
The Ox ‘n Fox (Warm ale any one?)
Ox & Lox (Not for Veggies!)
The Ox’s Cock ‘n Rox (Don’t bring the kiddies)
The Ox Rox! (Bang my head)
The Bull-Ox (UK BS)
Jox in the Ox (Sporty theme)
W-Ox up D-Ox? (Yan Can meets Bugs Bunny)
Ox ‘n Stox (Finally something Financially)
Ox, Stox, and Barrel (For the G&A Aficionados)
…
Perhaps its time a specialty store, (near the HHOF?) which could house Dr. Seuss-licenced merchandise:
